The MSYP Election night results took place on Tuesday the 18th of November.
There were three candidates from Castle Douglas High School; Andrew Jardine, Matthew Malloch and Laura Bell. Attending the event were a number of local Councillors who talked to the prospective candidates about how they could help their local communities, even if they were not elected. After a few anxious moments, the results were announced. The winners for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale were our own Laura Bell and John Brown fron Creetown. Matthew and Andrew drew a large vote each, so congratulations are due to them all, for their hard work and endeavour. They are all eligible for the net election in two years time. Matthew had a chance to chat with Laura where she reflected on her super victory. 'At the Election night I was quite nervous because I felt that I had not campaigned enough, not as much as some of my fellow candidates.' She revealed that she was surprised with the outcome; 'It was a shock when the Councillor announced I had gained 203 votes and that I was the new member for this constituency.I think the shock was noticeable in my acceptance speech!' Laura, then went on to thank everyone who voted for her, adding 'I promise that I will do my best as an MSYP and will put your ideas forward on how we can improve matters for young people in our area.' Well done Laura.
