Castle Douglas High School received a positive endorsement of staff and pupil work and support from parents from the Inspectorate Report published in January 2010.
The Report highlights as particular strengths:-
-well behaved young people who are keen to learn. -the standards achieved in National examinations. -the development of young people's confidence and self esteem through opportunities for wider,personal achievement. -the positive impact of the School of Ambition programme in improving the learning and achievements of young people.
In working with the School and Authority staff,Inspectors identified the following areas for the School to continue to improve:-
-young people's learning experiences in line with the Curriculum for Excellence. -approaches to meeting the learning needs of all young people. -develop self-evaluation to ensure good practice is identified and shared and action is taken to bring about improvement where necessary. - ensure all staff are fully committed to and involved in bringing about continuous improvement in the school.
The Inspectorate Team left with the confidence that the School was able to note these recommendations and take action without the requirement for a return visit.
Finally, the Quality Indicators from 'How good is our School' as applied to Castle Douglas HS were judged as:-
-Improvements in Performance- Very Good -Learners' Experiences-Good -Meeting Learning Needs-Satisfactory -The Curriculum-Good -Improvement through Self-evaluation-Satisfactory.
