The School Carbon Busters Working group have been examining the recent surveys , they have undertaken,on travel, water, energy, waste and the school building itself.

This has allowed them to come up with a proposed action plan for the school, which they hope to advertise and circulate around the school.Here is what the hard working squad have come up with......

ENERGY

Turn off all lights that are not needed.
Use radiator reflectors where possible.
Close blinds,doors and windows at night to keep the heat in.
Put more layers of clothes on during colder spells.

WATER

Put recycled plastic bottles in the toilet cisterns.
Do not leave taps running.
Save rain water in water butts for watering plants.

BUILDINGS

Ensure external doors are labelled to be closed.
Close all doors to keep in the heat.
Fit draught excluders to appropriate doors

TRAVEL

Walk and cycle more, when weather permits.
Use stickers and posters to encourage people to travel sustainably.
Take a bus, when possible,if you live far away.
Students and staff should be encouraged to car share, when possible.
Teachers can operate a lift share sheet in the staff room.

FOOD

Talk to catering and commercial services to obtain more local produce.
Compost food waste.
Plant vegetables to be used in the school canteen and Hospitality.

WASTE

Use both sides of paper.
Don't waste space in jotters.
Recycle.
Get a compost bin.


PLASTICS

Collect plastic bottles for recycling in classrooms.
Re-use plastic containers.
Refill plastic water bottles instead of throwing them away.
